The Johnston County Airport (JNX), located 3 miles west of Smithfield on U.S. 70 Business is a general aviation facility. The runway is 5,500 feet long and is paved and lighted as is the taxiway. The Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is about a 30-minute drive from the Smithfield-Selma area. Located nine miles east of Raleigh in Wake County, RDU provides efficient and cost-effective travel options for the Triangle area. The airport is served by 18 major and regional airlines with a total of 488 arrivals and departures daily. In 2006, the airport served over 4.3 million passengers. Terminal C, currently under expansion, will be designed to cater to traveler’s needs in a quick and flexible way. The new terminal will include a three-level basement processor building and an attached two-level concourse. In the coming years, Terminal C will add larger ticketing and security areas as well as a wider and longer concourse with state-of-the-art baggage handling.
