Education

The Greater Smithfield-Selma Area recognizes that workforce development is the key to long-term quality of life of our community. The Chamber works with business and education partners to improve tomorrow's workforce. Competition, quality and productivity, the same forces that drive our economy, are now driving our school system.

Therefore, the mission of the Education Division of the Chamber is to support and promote high quality education, thereby elevating the skills of the local workforce; which encourages future development, attracts and retains residents and businesses and provides a vitality to the area that benefits all citizens.

Some of the programs of the Education Division include:

Annual book drive
Capital Area Workforce Development Board
Computers for Kids
Flame for Learning Award
Principals breakfast
Teacher of the Month
School visitations and promotion

The Chamber's Education Committee meets on the first Monday of each month at 12:00 noon. Some meetings are held at the Chamber and others are held off-site, usually at a school. If you would like to participate on this committee or would like more information, contact Brandy Crocker at 919-934-9166 or bcrocker(at)smithfieldselma.com
