Leadership Johnston Application
Leadership Johnston is a leadership development program sponsored by the Johnston County Association of Chambers of Commerce and Johnston Community College. The mission of the program is to enhance the leadership skills of people throughout Johnston County through a focused capacity building effort. The skills learned through the program are designed to help participants be more productive leaders in the workplace and to encourage active civic leadership as volunteers, volunteer leaders and holders of public office. There are nine, monthly, all day sessions beginning in October, plus a weekend retreat. Sessions will be held on the first Wednesday of each month. Session overviews are listed below:
Group Orientation (September)
The orientation will be a short session for the participants to have a chance to meet and get acquainted. The goals and structure of the program will be explained.
Skills Training
Mike Collins of The Perfect Workday Company, will provide training in leadership development and presentation skills.
Team Building Retreat (October 16-17, 2009)
A manitory team building weekend will take place in October. After individuals explore their unique leadership abilities, teams will be formed to focus on cooperation, communication and decision making through ropes and classroom courses. Teams will be assigned a project concerning a current challenge facing the county.
Exploring Non-Profit Groups
Teams will explore the non-profit network in Johnston County and the contributions it makes locally.
Local Government
Teams will take an inside look at county and municipal government as well as attend a roundtable discussion with elected officials
Public Safety, Law & Order
Teams will look at issues facing the various law-enforcement agencies, look inside the 911 system and investigate the courts systems.
Educating for the Future
Teams will see the public, private and community college educational systems from the inside.
Health & Human Services
Teams will acquire a fresh understanding of health care, social services and the challenges faced by an aging population.
Business & Industry
Teams will see an overview of the top income producers for the county, present and projected.
Heritage and Tourism
Teams will experience first hand the sites that make living in Johnston County such a unique experience.
Project Presentations Banquet (June)
The final session will be an awards banquet at which the teams will present their projects and share their ideas.

Application and Cost
The course is designed for those who want to learn more about the community while developing and refining leadership skills. Course size will be limited to 20 participants.
