New, up-and-coming neighborhoods line this area, which is located just west of U.S. 301 between Smithfield and Selma. Most of the neighborhoods are less than 20 years old and offer quality single family and multi-family housing. The focal point of the area is Smithfield-Selma High School and, on adjacent property, Smithfield's Community Park and new aquatic center. Subdivisions include: Bradford Park, Eden Woods, Booker Dairy Plantation, Fairfield, North Chase and Northview.

Just north and south of Smithfield's downtown commercial district are two of the oldest neighborhoods in Johnston County. Impressive southern homes, along tree-lined streets add charm to living in the two National Historic Districts of North Smithfield and Brooklyn. A variety of houses, from small quaint bungalows to premier Victorian mansions are available for purchase or rent.
