Chamber creates foundation to implement community vision planNovember 09, 2011SMITHFIELD—The Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce has announced the formation of a 501(c)3 public charity to fund and implement the Chamber ‘s Vision Plan, "Creating a New Tomorrow." The Plan was developed in 2008.
“The Smithfield-Selma Chamber Economic Development Foundation is already working closely with M. Durwood Stephenson to advance the Plan’s economic development goals. It has also begun implementing the community appearance initiative with the East Market Street landscaping and bridge cleaning project,” said Keith Brinson, Foundation Chair.
The “Creating a New Tomorrow” community vision plan addresses such issues as developing a roadmap for success for business growth and good livability, challenging schools to be globally competitive, improving community image, embracing diversity and achieving state-of-the-art transportation systems and infrastructure. “This new foundation will assist other organizations, such as the towns and county government, public schools, community college and the Chamber, among many others, in furthering community projects and creating a good quality of life for all citizens of our area,” stated Foundation Chair-elect Jason Wenzel.
The foundation received its charitable nonprofit status at the end of June and is in the process of raising funds for the economic development effort.
“Contributions from community citizens and businesses, including anonymous donations, are welcome,” said Brinson.Contact:Rick Childrey, President(919) 934-9166
