• Chamber Women's Business Network awards 2013 scholarships

    The Chamber Women's Business Network recently held its Spring Scholarship Luncheon and reward three business professionals with continuing education scholarships.

    A total of $2,700, proceeds from 2012 CWBN programs, was given to Tracey Woodruff of Johnston Health, Cynthia Hutchings of Smithfield-Selma High School and Jessica Balazsi of Johnston Community College.

    Special guests at the luncheon, held at the Country Club of Johnston County, were Melissa Essary, former Dean of the Law School at Campbell University and June Atkinson, State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

    Here is more information about our three scholarship recipients:

    Tracey Woodruff – Tracey is the administrative director of patient care services with Johnston Health.  She is pursuing a Master’s in Healthcare Administration with Pfeiffer University.  Tracey believes that a master’s degree will enhance her business skills and knowledge with her current employer.  She says, “Healthcare is changing everyday and as leaders, we must effectively implement change.”
    Tracey is a single mother of two children.  Tracey receives a $1000 scholarship.

    Cynthia Hutchings – Cynthia is a pre-International Baccalaureate teacher, IB, CAS, and EE Coordinator with Smithfield-Selma High School, Johnston County’s first school to implement the IB program.  She is pursuing a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction Development at NC State.  Cynthia says she is a lifelong service learner, and she is involved in overseeing and participating in all of the community service activities her students are involved in.  She receives a $650 scholarship.

    Jessica Balazsi – Jessica is an accounts receivable specialist with Johnston Community College.  She is pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration from East Carolina University.  Jessica served as a student ambassador at JCC and graduated from there before continuing her education at ECU.  Jessica says, “I have persevered and never given up on my goal to attain my bachelor’s degree.  My dream is to attain my MBA.  I feel that by attaining my MBA, it will open doors for me to advance in the business field.”  Jessica is involved with the women’s ministry at her church.  She receives a $650 scholarship.
