• Town of Smithfield recognizes Chamber at council meeting

    At a special meeting prior to its regular monthly meeting on October 1, the Smithfield Town Council adopted a proclamation recognizing the Greater Smithfield-Selma Area Chamber of Commerce for its contributions to the town's economy, business and quality of life.

    Also at the meeting, the Chamber showed its new economic development videos to the council.

    Four Oaks Bank & Trust had just sponsored a Business After Hours at the Town Hall with members of the council present. The Chamber hosted a similar event with the Town of Selma in April.

    The following is the proclamation read by Mayor Daniel Evans:


    Proclamation Recognizing the Greater Smithfield-Selma Area Chamber of Commerce

    WHEREAS, the Greater Smithfield Selma Area Chamber of Commerce is a community organization consisting of businesses and professionals whose purpose is to advance commercial, industrial and civic development and to encourage the economic and social progress of our community for the benefit of all citizens; and

    WHEREAS, the Greater Smithfield Selma Area Chamber of Commerce creates partnerships to stimulate Economic Development and growth in commercial, residential and entrepreneurial endeavors; and

    WHEREAS, Economic Development plays a significant role in the long-term well-being of the Town of Smithfield; and

    WHEREAS, the Greater Smithfield Selma Chamber of Commerce has created an Economic Development Division; and

    WHEREAS, The Economic Development Division advances commercial, industrial and civic development; encourages the economic and social progress of the Smithfield-Selma region; works with city, county and state governments to facilitate the production and distribution of goods and services; and encourages an atmosphere in which private enterprise may operate profitably and efficiently; and

    WHEREAS, the Greater Smithfield Selma Area Chamber of Commerce is not only a champion for new business and industry, but fosters existing business and industry to maintain longevity in the Town of Smithfield; and

    WHEREAS, the Town supports the efforts of the Greater Smithfield Selma Area Chamber of Commerce.

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Wilbert Daniel Evans, Jr., along with the Smithfield Town Council recognize the contributions made by the Greater Smithfield Selma Area Chamber of Commerce to the Town’s economy, businesses and quality of life.
